They push me to get stronger and at the same time help me adapt the workouts to account for my injuries.     “Like so many people out there, I looked in the mirror and said to myself what happened, how did I get so out of shape and obese. Now I have been a member of some of the local gyms in the past, but when I am working out I am working out by myself. But at "Cross Fit" things are different. "YOU" are not by yourself, there is a support system, and people just like you and me and the Staff at Kingston Athletics work with you to achieve your goals. During the 6 week challenge I was not able to make it for the 6:30am class, but no problem the Staff let me attend the 5:30pm class and one evening class I was the last in the class to finish, but the group stood by and motivated me thru the last few reps, they make you feel as if you belong there, and that is what makes it special, oh yea I weighed 273 LBS when I started the challenge, 5 weeks in I now weigh 250 LBS.”

If you think you're too old or too overweight this is the place to go. I had some restrictions so the trainers developed another exercise that accommodates my restriction.     “I've been training at Kingston Athletics for over 2 years. I've been with Coach Olivia most of that time. I have never been injured at the gym while training with her. She pays careful attention to everything-mechanics, weight load, how hard I'm working, etc... I'm a tennis player and she has always been willing to tailor workouts specific to that. Strengthening, movement, endurance, and injury prevention. She is also a Yoga and gymnastics instructor which informs how she approaches the workouts she puts me through. I have gained strength, stamina, speed, and flexibility steadily over the past couple of years. I have seen similar transformations and improvements from others who take CrossFit classes, boot camps, and those who train with the other coaches. There is a very strong vibe of community and support that I never found in other gyms. Any coach/trainer there will answer any question one might have. They will also give nutritional advice if asked. If you are serious about getting fit or are in a fitness rut I highly recommend Kingston Athletics. If you go you will get stronger.”

    “I never expected to be a cross fit person. I have no idea why I decided to join the new you challenge in 2016, but I did. I was really impressed by how supportive everyone was. The coaches were great. There a real focus on safety, lifestyle changes you can make to assist your body, etc. It feels like everyone is rooting for you. More than a year later, I still go - which is a first for me for a gym membership- and I have kept off the weight I lost in those first 6 weeks and then some. I'm much stronger. I work as a nurse and I use the skills I learned in the gym daily to protect myself when lifting patients. It's a great place.”

    “I never expected to be a "cross fit" person but after 6 weeks of the "New You Challenge" I was hooked--and that was over a year ago. Unlike a traditional gym, I just have to show up. Once I am here, the coaches take over with fun and challenging workouts that can be scaled to any level and the gym is full of great people who make working out a social experience--whether groaning over the bike cals or cheering you on for a good lift. It really doesn't get boring, which for me is a huge plus. I also love the boot camp option and the variety of class times. So whether its 5 am or 6:30 pm, I can squeeze in a workout no matter what my schedule looks like. Definitely, check them out.”

    “I walked into Kingston Athletics 4 years ago barely being able to lift the training bar over my head and walked out the other day after lifting 340# off the floor. And while my strength has grown and my body has changed, being a part of the KA community has given me something I never even realized I was missing. Finding a community of like-minded people who push you to be a better version of yourself is not something that you're going to stumble upon by jumping on a treadmill somewhere or doing a few reps on a press machine.     “After 4 1/2 years I guess it's time I weighed in on this place. My perspective is a bit different because I'm about to enter my 8th decade of life, and before KA/Crossfit Ulster I had never done anything remotely like this. I have arthritis that limits my shoulder movements, and age limits my stamina a bit, but the coaches/trainers work with me and come up with accommodations for any movements I can't manage, and help be me to scale the workouts to be appropriate for my age. I love my fellow CrossFitters - they are fun, supportive, and they all make me feel like I am part of a family. And I am healthier and stronger than I have ever been.     “Was always curious about crossfit once I heard about it after starting at home workouts. Always to self-conscious and intimidated to try it.     “They have a great new facility just off Route 28 between Camper World and a car dealer. I dropped in while in town for the weekend and showed up 10 Minutes before the 9 am Saturday class. Tom got the necessary paperwork sorted out and quickly showed me the layout of the facility. A few minutes later he explained the warm-up and then demonstrated the new movements in the team WOD. These folks have a great affiliate and a great atmosphere. I'm happy to have stopped in at Kingston Athletics! Cheers!”

    “When I joined Kingston Athletics/CrossFit Ulster, I was a transplant from a "traditional" gym where I didn't really know what I was doing, putting in what I thought was decent effort at the time and getting no results. With the help of the fantastic coaches and focused programming at Kingston Athletics, I was able to turn my idea of "fitness" around and make real progress and profound changes in my life. When you have support coming at you from every direction, both from the coaches and your fellow members, it helps you want to work hard and push yourself. In my 4+ years here, I've become a person who needs and wants to be here almost every day. Not only do I feel better and look better than when I started, I've gained confidence and an accountability to myself that was lacking before. I've met so many great people that I probably would not have crossed paths with otherwise. The group classes are challenging, but inclusive, fun and scalable for everyone. Due to a hip injury a few months ago, I started doing workouts that the owner Sean programmed specifically for me. I am so grateful that I've been able to continue going to the gym without disrupting my routine (all while getting better!) The programming has been spot on and I feel like I am getting stronger in areas that are integral in my recovery. If you are even the slightest bit curious, I would highly recommend trying out Kingston Athletics. There are no shortcuts here, but your mental and physical health are well worth the hard work you will put in.”
