Speaking from experience, they aren’t there to simply yell at you or boss you around or put measuring tape around your waist every week. A fitness coach does so much more than that, and they can really contribute to a successful training regime. Could you do it on your own? Sure you could. Will you be faster, more efficient, and more motivated with a coach? Most definitely.

Why You Should Work With A Coach

A fitness coach is a trained, experienced individual who will sit down with you and listen to your goals. They aren’t going to slap a pre-made plan onto the desk and say, “Do this, this, and this, then come see me again.” Instead, they are going to custom make a plan that fits your needs, your body, and your schedule. They will work with you hands-on, one-on-one to see those goals through as they stand by your side actually coaching you. That means more than just yelling something motivational when you’re about to quit (although that can be quite helpful!) they will help you decide what to do, when to do it, and tell you when you’re done.

A fitness coach is your personal referee. They’ll help you set achievable goals and make a plan to reach them as they push you along the way. They’ll know how much to challenge you to help you grow without pushing you so far you want to give up. This all comes from their training and experience, something you may lack. Even if you’re in good shape and you’ve completed training programs before, there’s nothing like having a personal advocate by your side to show you things from a different perspective, keep your mind on track, and of course, keep you in proper form as you work out.

What Does a Personal Trainer Do?

Here’s a breakdown of some of the things to expect from your fitness coach:
  • Goal setting. When you first meet, they will talk to you to set some realistic goals for the short and long term.
  • Planning. They will then create a plan that fits your schedule so you can meet those goals.
  • Training. They will stand with you as you follow that plan, during each training regime and throughout your entire program.
  • Monitoring. They will help you monitor your progress to keep you on track and make changes if needed.
  • Assistance. They will be there to help you make adjustments along the way as you meet your goals and possibly change some goals.
  • Motivation. As you go through the plan you’ve created, they will be there to motivate you.

There’s nothing like having someone who knows where you’re at, where you’re headed, and where you want to be after it all to motivate you to keep going. They’ll be on the same page as you while, at the same time, looking three steps ahead to avoid hiccups and foreseeable issues/delays.
